JACK PETCHEY AWARD FOR SEPTEMBER 2006

Omololu Abiodun, boy’s under 15, was the recipient of the clubs third Jack Petchey award for 2006. Omololu has been a stalwart of the clubs junior team since joining us. He attends the vast majority of the clubs coaching sessions, and didn’t miss one of the young athletes meetings. He also also contested all the sports hall meetings last winter and competed in the Essex track and field Championships in May 2006. He’s a well liked and respected member of the team, and the club was proud to make this award to him. The presentation was made at Walthamstow Pool and Track by Karen Chittock, a member of the clubs coaching and young athletes team committee.

Devon Douglas, seen above after receiving the clubs Jack Petchey award for June 2006.  Devon has achieved high standards in all his events this year, taking nearly all the clubs records, and has also been selected to compete for Essex schools later in the year. He is always striving to improve and set an example to the clubs younger members.

Devons award has been spent on New Shot Putt equipment and  a DVD video recorder to video training sessions and Competitions througout the year. These will be added to web site to show how well our young athletes are performing.

Nekita Akintade, seen above receiving the Jack Petchey award for March 2006.  She was presented with the trophy by Pam Ackland-Snow, the clubs women's and men's track and field secretary.

The award was made for Nekitas continued efforts throughout the year, not only with her coaching support, but her committment to the club and the teams she competes for.  She is a well respected member of the club, and is a role model for many of the junior section she works with. She is the first young member of the club to take up pole vaulting, which has led to several other young members now joining this squad.

Nekitas award request was for new pole vaulting equipment, which the club now has.  We have purcased two new poles which have already been put to the test, and have had a thumbs up from all.
