North London XC hosted by Eton Manor

The last weekend of British Summer Time saw Eton Manor host the 2023 North London cross country championships at Hackney Marshes. A huge amount of time and effort went into preparing for this behind the scenes, from obtaining the necessary licenses, to designing a fantastic course, and ensuring the health & safety requirements were met. Everything appeared to go like clockwork on the day, except for the weather, as the rain came in just before the start of the ladies race.

Katy Casterton of Serpentine was first lady home, and her colleagues help seal the team win. In the mens race Adam Milberry showed just how much he liked the course with a dominant win, which helped VPH & TC AC win the team prize. Eton Manor ladies finished 5th, and the men finished 4th.

Time was taken to pay tribute to long-time Manorite Louise Ward, who very sadly passed away recently. Race Captain Paul Boddey made a short but heartfelt speech before each of the races. Our thoughts are with Louise’s family.
The post-run bake sale was a great success, raising £160 which will be donated to Breast Cancer Now, the charity chosen in memory of Louise. Eton Manor matched the amount raised and so made a total donation of £320. Thank you to the bakers and to everyone who purchased a cake.

A massive thank you to Race Secretary Hayley Dalton, who worked so hard to prepare for and organise the race, and her team of volunteers who made it happen on the day.

Thanks also to Lance Tabraham for the lovely photo.

!Elvis League Winners!

Lightning does strike twice! Huge congratulations are in order after both mens and ladies teams were victorious in the Elvis league for the second year running. A dominant start to the season saw the men rack up four wins in the first five races, building an unassailable lead, and sealed league victory with a race to spare. The ladies league was more competitive, with success not confirmed until the final fixture, where a strong turnout resulted in the most convincing win of the season.
There was further success in the individual competitions, with Jenny Heymann crowned champion for the fourth year running! Lee Milne was the V40 champion, and yours truly Captain Boddo was second overall in the mens competition.
There was a lot of fantastic running this year, I noticed a lot of PBs at the various races. A couple of personal highlights of the year were being part of the mens A Team charging around the Olympic Park on our way to victory for one; witnessing the mighty ladies team crushing it at at Valentines park for another.
Thank you to everyone who took part as a runner, volunteer or support squad. After a lot of years with not many team trophies to show for our efforts, we can all be very proud of what we’re achieving now. If we keep this up, we’re going to need a bigger table at the awards night! UTM!

Success at the Midsummer Relay!

Congratulations to our men’s team on coming home in first place at the 2023 Midsummer relay. Sam, George, Ed & James ran fantastically well to beat a quality Orion Harriers team.

Our ladies team of Lee, Liz, Jess & Jenny fought hard to finish second behind a strong team from Loughton.

The youth team were well represented on the night too. Well done to Matilda, Tom, Sam, Luka & Toby!

It was great to see Tom out supporting us all in his 50th anniversary year with Eton Manor. UTM!

Met League Success!

Met League Success!

Following on from promotion for both teams in our debut season, both mens and ladies squads consolidated their place in division two with solid performances this year. The ladies finished 4th and the men 5th. Both reams replicated last seasons success with victory in the Vets competitions. Huge thanks and congratulations to all runners who contributed (including second claim, we couldn’t have done it without you!).

Fantastic results despite not fielding not fielding full teams at all races. We’d love to push for promotion to division one, but that requires a full squad at every race. So come on Manorites, support your club in the capital’s premier cross country league! UTM!

2022 TCS London Marathon

Eton Manor was represented by no less than 13 members at the 2022 London Marathon. Several cheer squads were on the route to support our runners. And didn’t they all do well! Some fantastic debut performances, and a couple of new PBs as well. UTM!

Elvis League Winners!

The final race of the 2022 Elvis League saw Eton Manor crowned champions in both mens and ladies team competitions. Jenny Heymann won the ladies competition, Simon Cottle was second in the mens, and Lee Milne won the ladies V40. From both race captains, a heartfelt thank you to everyone who took part in the league this year. Not just the speedy legs who scored the points; absolutely everyone who has been part of the club throughout the season. Every single one of you who has taken part in a race or training session has contributed to the clubs morale and confidence, which has been our trademark this year. We are only a little East London club, but we have always had a fantastic team spirit, and we are finally getting the success that spirit deserves. Congratulations one and all!

The Elvis awards ceremony is on Friday 21st October, details in the Elvis League facebook group. Please come along if you can, and share in the celebrations as we pick up our trophies! Up the Manor!!

Eton Manor Association Fun Run

On 19th June 2022 the Eton Manor Association Fun Run made a welcome return after a break of several years. This charity fundraising event was a collaboration between Eton Manor AC and Eton manor Rugby Club. A total of 59 participants ran the 2 mile course, the youngest being just 3 years old, and also featuring a camel!

There was a strong contingent from the junior section of the club in addition to senior members, rugby coaches & players, and runner from the local community. Everyone had a great time enjoying the facilities at the Rugby club, with an outside bar, BBQ and a bouncy castle.

The event raised over £400 for Haven House children’s hospice. Kind thanks to all the volunteers who helped host the event, and everyone who came to support. UTM!
