Welcome to the 2nd edition of The Reporter covering our centenary year. It’s been a tremendous year, full of races, dinners, quizzes and social events. All of this celebrating didn’t happen by chance, and in this issue you will see behind the scenes in the planning and execution of the Centenary Programme as Louise Vacher gives us an account of the work of the Centenary Committee and Steve Adams lets us into the secrets of organising a Centenary event.

Thrills and spills guaranteed. The really big event of the year was the Dinner at Leyton Orient on 15th June. It was marvellous to see so many old Eton Manor boys there. Read all about that from p18. I asked Tom to put names to faces of the old boys in the photograph, and this prompted a trip down Memory Lane as he charts the rises and falls in membership over the years. More of this in next issue too. It reminds us that nothing should be taken for granted and that we all have our contribution to make to the club. Talking of which… Volunteering is very important in any club. Have you thought perhaps of sparing a bit more time to support the work of the club? At the AGM on Tuesday November 19th following training (which will start at the earlier time of 7pm) you will hear that the committee is working towards setting up some new volunteer roles as we work towards “club mark” status. See any member of the committee if you would like to volunteer more time. And in case you don’t know who they are, you’ll find the names and pictures of the current committee on the back of this issue. The fixture cards are in the clubhouse. It’s the cross-country season now, so get those trail shoes out and let’s have a great turnout at the Chingford League races. Remember all members are welcome at races, as competitors, marshals or supporters. And if, like me, you aren’t one of the faster runners in the club, don’t worry – you are still making a contribution when you run in a race – and it’s fun! This edition of the Reporter has the result from all the Assembly League and Elvis League races over the summer. We had a tremendous haul of individual medals at the Assembly League. And a medal also in the Elvis League. Well done to everyone who took part in the races. Have you done a marathon, half marathon, 10k, or other event? Let us all know about it – send me a report, pictures, both!
