The prize-winners in the individual league competitions are finalised after the sixth race of the league, but the team competitions also include the relay seventh race: the Wanstead Flats relays. Teams of four tackle the 2-mile cross country route, handing over to the next runner in front of the sports pavilion. Recent rain meant conditions on the back of the course were particularly treacherous this year.
Six of our juniors took part; Kim & Matilda in the girls team; Toby, Kester, Daniel & Luka in the boys team, all enjoying the muddy course.
The senior ladies team placed third behind winners Trent Park, and VPH in second. The senior mens team placed a creditable fifth, with winners Orion Harriers out in front on their own.
And so, to the league prizegiving, and take a bow Eton Manor vets! Congratulations to Jenny Heymann, winner of the ladies V40 prize, with Sarah Flanagan runner-up. Congratulations also to Gaz Towers, winner of the mens V40 prize, with James Pilch runner-up. The ladies and mens vets were both victorious in the team competitions, winning some very impressive shields.
Elsewhere, new Manorite Jack Henson won the senior men prize. We can’t claim an Eton Manor win because he was “cup-tied” (from changing clubs during the season), but nonetheless very well done Jack!. Kathy Webb was named “volunteer of the year” for helping out at every race of the season. Thanks also to Paul Manson, who was a regular timekeeper as well as producing the juniors results.
All told a great day out, and all the silverware is just reward for the hard work we’ve put in as a club. Thank you to everyone who ran, volunteered or supported the Chingford League in 2022. UTM!
